About Us

Our Mission

Our mission is to foster a thriving community in Norwalk by promoting education, literacy, inclusivity, and environmental stewardship through our Little Free Library, Native Garden, and community resources. Our location at the corner of Olive & Paddison is convenient for students and familys walking to and from the bus stop at Sproul & Paddison. We strive to keep the library stocked with books for all ages in English, Spanish, and any other language that is spoken in our community.

Work on our Native Garden was started in 2024, and is an ongoing project. We aim to create a thriving garden full of plants that are native to California. Native plants support local wildlife, and require minimal water beyond annual rainfall. As you walk by, stop and take a look at our placards to learn more about each plant.

Our Story

Our Little Free Library was established in 2021 and was embraced by the community almost immediately. Originally stocked from a personal library, we now receive regular donations from the community.

Our Values

Education:
We believe in the power of lifelong learning, the foundation of which begins in early childhood through literacy. We aim to foster a love of reading for children and adults of all ages. We also invite you to learn about the different native plants in our garden that support our environment.
Community:
We strive to create a strong, connected, and supportive neighborhood. Whenever possible, we stock the library with information and resources for our neighbors.
Inclusion:
We celebrate the diversity of our community and nation. We believe that all people deserve respect and safety in their homes and neighborhoods. We believe that no human is illegal, and that all identities are valid.
Sustainability:
We believe that it is important to support sustainability at a local level, especially through landscaping. Many native wildlife species are endangered or at risk, and we can help them through restoring native plants. These native plants will also reduce our water use, which is especially important in drought conditions that are common in Southern California.
